Batteries, or dry cells are produced to provide steady and uninterrupted D.C capacity to different modern day gadgets running with electrical energy. Batteries are generally lead-acid cells. Over 15 billion are made each year and therefore are sold worldwide. A number of these are alkaline-batteries that are discarded after being used for a single time. But there are also some which can be charged over and over after every use and are known as "rechargeable batteries". These should be kept at fully charged condition so as to satisfy the D.C. power demand whenever needed. Therefore suitable rechargers are required to charge those types.

These rechargeable batteries are of high capacities. Rechargeable batteries, like Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) or Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries can be charged several countless times and last far longer time in high drain devices.

Once the charge goes down below a particular level it stops supplying D.C power to electrical instruments, then the battery must be charged to regain its capacity of supplying D.C power. Poor chargers can even damage batteries and shorten their lifetime. The charger takes current from electric lines and induces the electrical charge in to the batteries.

The charging of these depends on different facets such as its capacity, its age, its initial charges, etc. Different chargers vary widely in this matter. There's a tendency of generating heat throughout the charging of rechargeable batteries that is one of the most commonly cited factors for that harm to these battery. Heat mainly generates because of the internal resistance and chemical result of the rechargeable batteries. Excessive current may also damage battery after it's fully charged.

The use of rechargeable batteries can be found in laptops, IPods, cellular phones, motorized wheel chairs, etc. Therefore suitable chargers are essential for that charging of these re-chargeable batteries.
