Facebook Places, Facebook's location-based feature that launched in August of 2010, allows Facebook users to virtually "check into" a physical location mobile fitness marketing utilizing their cell phone. The purpose of a virtual register is to share your physical location along with your friends over the internet so they might have a chance to encounter you in person. Facebook Places is a competitor to other location based services such as Foursquare and Gowalla but has already proven itself to become more powerful from a mobile fitness marketing systems standpoint.
