3 megapixel camera Acer Set To Release Android Tablet And Sm
Acer, now the second-largest computer manufacturer in the world, has announced it to will enter the battle of the tablets. It is also releasing a smartphone that acts like a tablet. The smartphone will be 7-inches in size and Android based. The tablet is a 10.1 inch device that runs off of Microsoft Windows. Both will hit the market in February and April of next year.
What can one expect with each? The smartphone will have a 1280x800 pixel display. It comes with a 2 megapixel forward-facing HD camera, an 8MP regular camera with an LED Flash, wireless connectivity with 3G and Wi-Fi. The 7-inch unit will also include a dual-core processor and will run Adobe Flash Player 10.1. Dolby Mobile Technology is also offered on this unit. Oh yeah, and there is a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor ?this combined with the six-axis Gyroscope/accelerometer sensor is said to make it an ideal portable gaming device. It will also include a 4.8?widescreen with a 21:9 aspect ratio, Bluetooth 3.0 and HSDPA at 14.4. The unit can also record 720p HD video.
The tablet, or the 10.1 inch model has an aluminum casing and features a built-in HDMI port. It is 13.3mm thick and a little heavier than the Apple iPad. It will have 3G connectivity and Wi-Fi and include multi-touch input and an internal gyroscope. The smartphone will run Windows 7 and comes with a docking device that includes a full-size keyboard. It will run an AMD processor and have two 1.3 megapixel cameras ?one for the front and one on the back. The screen will have a 16:0 aspect ratio. Reviewers of the device state it does not offer a front button but does have power and screen lock on the side, an SD slot on another. It is powered by a Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU. This device, like the smartphone, will feature DLNA-enabled Clear.fi, Acer new Wi-Fi content streaming and sharing technology.
The Acer's Android tablets will be using Android 3.0, also known as Honeycomb. Honeycomb is OS Androids next platform, after Gingerbread. The details of what Honeycomb includes have been somewhat secret. Some are guessing it will be an incremental upgrade as Android 2.2 (Froyo) from Android 2.1 (lair) was. Other companies looking to integrate Android Honeycomb are Toshiba and Samsung.
Other companies who offer Android based tablets include Samsung with the Galaxy Tab. Sharp will release a 5.5 inch and a 10.8 inch tablet named Galapagos in Japan starting this December. These tablets, like Acers, will feature Wi-Fi. The smaller version will have a 1024 x 600 LCD screen and the larger a 1366 x 800 pixel resolution. Devices come in red, ipad reviews and comparisons, silver and black.
Reuters believes with the release of all the Android-based systems that sales will be taken from Apple, whose iPad holds 15.2 percent of the market. Reuters went on to say that over 15 suppliers will sell Android-based tablets by mid-2011. Besides Acer, Samsung and Sharp there will be Cisco and Dell. Why the boost? Leading the market so far is Samsung with their Galaxy Tab which being available through carriers like AT&T has helped boost Google Android market.
Will Acer find its place in the smartphone tablet market? It looks as if the company is going to give it a good try.
