mp3 docking station Protect Your Iphone Buy Insurance
You finally have a brand new iPhone 4S phone. If you upgraded your contract with your service provider, you probably only paid $200 for it (depending on which version you bought). But what happens if you drop it and shatter the glass, or drop it in water by accident and have to replace it? The going price for a replacement is a whopping $649. Ouch! It probably a good idea to buy some insurance for your iPhone. With so many plans to choose from, which one is right for you? Kelly Montgomery, Digital Trends, has given us a pretty comprehensive breakdown of what is offered.
Apple Care+ ($99 for two years including two accidents)
This plan extends your Apple hardware repair and support to 2 years and includes accidental coverage for 2 incidents as well. This means that unless you damage the phone (which is covered under a separate clause) Apple will repair or replace your phone for 2 years. If you accidently drop the phone or drop it in water, you can replace your phone for a $49 deductible. Theft or loss isn covered at all, but there is an App called Find My iPhone that will help track down your iPhone. The down side to Apple Care+ is that is only offered when you purchase the phone. You should have been offered this coverage if you purchased your iPhone from Apple. It isn available yet from the Verizon or Sprint. If you bought your iPhone on October 14th or after, and didn opt to buy Apple Care+ when you bought your iPhone, Apple has made it available until November 14th.
Carrier Insurance ?Don bother ?Buy Apple Care+
Sprint ?Sprint doesn offer any insurance for the iPhone 4S as of yet.
AT&T ?AT&T customers can insure their iPhones with Mobile Protection Pack for as little $6.99 - $9.99 per month, but will pay $199 deductible if something happens to the phone. This plan also covers theft or loss. You can only make 2 claims in the 2 years.
Verizon ?Verizon customers can purchase the Total Equipment Coverage insurance for their iPhones for $10.99 per month, but have to pay a $169 deductible. This is pretty steep if you have to replace a lost or stolen phone.
Third Party Coverage
SquareTrade - $99 for 2 years coverage which provides coverage for manufacturer defects as well as accidental coverage. If you spill on or drop your phone, youl have to pay a $50 deductible to get it repaired or replaced. Customers must purchase this plan within 30 days of the purchase of their iPhone.
Worth Ave. Group ?One year of insurance for $89 or two years for $178, which includes coverage for drops, spills, and theft, and offers unlimited repairs and replacements under the plan. This is probably the most comprehensive plan available.
GoCare ?One year of protection for $59 or two years for $97. This insurance has very comprehensive coverage, including mechanical failures, drop,mp3 docking station, spill, and water submersion protection, but youe only allowed one replacement per the term of your coverage. The company also provides loaner phones, as well as technical support and data recovery. This is the only insurance that can be purchased at any time after you buy your iPhone.
So which plan is for you? If you are especially accident-prone, you may want to go with the more expensive Worth Ave. Group since you can get unlimited repairs and replacements no matter how many times you drop your iPhone into water. If you haven purchased insurance for your iPhone by November 14th, you will have to go with GoCare, as they are the only company offering "any time" insurance.
