Before opening the back of your PC tower, you should remember to turn off the computer and unplug the power cord and the speakers to avoid any unfortunate accidents.

Now find the sound card slot on the back of your computer tower. On most computer towers, empty slots are covered over with a metal bar. Use the first empty slot after an unoccupied one for the sound card.

You need to remove the metal bar over the slot with the screwdriver.

While removing the sound card from its packaging, you need to be extra careful. The computer repair experts advise you not to touch any of the colorful connections on the card as this may cause some damage.

Slide the sound card into the open slot. It will click into the place. But if you feel any resistance, stop immediately. The card maybe inserted upside down. Remove and restart the process.

Once the sound card slides into the place, screw it back in. Turn your PC tower upright and reconnect your computer peripherals, like the keyboard, mouse, etc

Turn on your computer. It should detect the new sound card when the computer boots up. Install your audio drivers. The sound card should come with a CD driver. If not, you can download a driver from the card manufacturers. # You can now plug in the speakers and restart your computer.

Selecting to turn off integrated sound: Standalone or dedicated sound cards typically produce better quality audio than integrated sound devices. You need to follow few tips to turn off the integrated sound:

Open your control panel. If you previously had an integrated sound card, you need to tell your computer to use the new dedicated sound card instead of the old integrated device.

Open the device manager.

Click on the plus sign by sound, video and game controllers.

Right click on the old integrated device and select properties.

Click on the driver tab, and under this tab, click the disable button to turn off the device. You might want to check your new sound card before closing the device manager to make sure it is listed as enabled and working properly.
